Industry and Sector Focus: Cleantech and sustainability, business services, and Web-enhanced services. Areas of focus and expertise include but are not limited to the following:
- Energy efficiency, demand reduction, building automation, and smart grid technologies
- Clean energy – solar, wind, geothermal, biomass
- Value-added recycling, including electronics, specialty materials, and organics
- Technology-enhanced business services
- Healthcare IT
- Digital media and marketing services
- Healthy, organic, and sustainable consumer products
- Water and waste water technologies and services
- Enterprise software for energy and capacity management
Stage: Companies with strong customer validation, typically generating more than $1 million in annual revenue.
Investment Size: $1 MM to $2MM initially, with up to $4 million per portfolio company. SJF will lead or participate in syndicate rounds with limited partners and co-investors for larger financings up to $10MM.
Geographic Focus: Throughout the United States.
Management Teams: Deep domain expertise in their respective industries and an interest in contributing to a positive impact.
Capital Efficiency: Businesses that require less than $10 million over the life of the company in order to reach profitability and rapid sales growth; additional capital optional to further accelerate growth.
